Blockchain – A new infrastructure for the future society

In this lecture we focus on what blockchain is and provide a glimpse on what the technology behind cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin can be used for in the future.

An expert study by the World Economic Forum recently showed that a majority of the experts assessed that 10 % of global GDP would be recorded in a blockchain by 2025.

Blockchain is the underlying structure of cryptocurrencies, being Bitcoin the name of the best-known cryptocurrency as of today. The impact on the financial industry is evident but its influence goes well beyond the financial industry. Contracts, property records, electricity trading, the Internet of Things, voting procedures are discussed and tested today to be divided into blockchains. The possibilities and impact on society go far beyond our imagination.

In this lecture we focus on what blockchain is and provide a glimpse on what the technology can be used for in the future.
