Seven out of ten human resource directors in Sweden today regard the generation shift as a very important issue. Far from that many feel like they are prepared for this gigantic shift when nearly every second manager will retire and a whole new generation will enter the labor market. How can an employer be successful at employing the best young talents and, at the same time, retain the knowledge built up by the older employees who will leave the labor market? The results from Kairos Future’s Swedish survey ”Successful Generation shift” are clear on this point. Those who succeed in attracting the young talents are successful at particularly one crucial factor: they have created an even distribution of men and women among the employees. So there we have it: young people are not attracted to workplaces that are mainly dominated by either men or women. It is attractive with a mix. Workplaces where there are equal numbers of men and women are appealing to today’s youth. How does an employer succeed in maintaining equal numbers of men and women?
